Summary
Chapter 71 is subtitled Dad's Week. Darren is the first to enter Isabella's room. He asks if she is ready for visitors. She asks to see only Darren first. Darren backs up. Isabella can hear a whispered conversation before Darren reenters the room. Isabella cries when she sees the injuries to his face. He assures her he is not seriously hurt. Darren looks out the window. He gives a general description of the view, including people going about their business. Isabella says, “I bet lots of them have had terrible stuff happen to them” (285).
