Summary
Chapter 31 is subtitled Mom's Week. The custody agreement requires that both Nicole and Isaiah approve if Isabella spends a night away from home. After a lot of phone calls and filling out a form, Isabella is allowed to spend the night with Imani. Isabella briefly describes Imani's house, her baby sister, and her dog. They order pizza and settle down to watch television. When they see a movie called Hang 'Em High accompanied by an image of a man looking through a noose, Imani begins to shake with fear. Her mother rushes to comfort her daughter. Isabella offers to go home, but Imani wants her to stay. Later, Imani asks if Isabella ever faces racial prejudice.
