Summary
Chapter 24 is subtitled Mom's Week. Nicole and Isaiah have discussed the situation at school without yelling at each other. Nicole offers to let Isabella stay home if she does not feel safe at school, but she wants to be with her friends. She has not heard from Imani since the incident. After breakfast, John Mark drives Isabella to school as usual. He parks a short distance from the school to talk. He says he knows “the kind of people who do horrible stuff like hang nooses” (93). He grew up in a racist family. His father hated anyone who wasn't white. John Mark did not share those beliefs, but he did not speak up against them for fear of being beaten. John Mark is obviously emotional about this subject. He assures Isabella he does not condone those beliefs. There are police cars at school...
