Summary

Chapter 30 – Maxine learns the internet is alive with conspiracy theories about the September 11 terrorist attacks. Igor reveals that there is a hidden track on the DVD, in which Reg walks in on the room full of Arabs. They are working on a Vircator, a virtual-cathode-oscillator, an electromagnetic pulse that disables electronics. Maxine and Igor both worry it has something to do with 9/11. Driscoll shows up at Maxine’s apartment that night. Driscoll has shaved her head, explaining it is easier to manage a wig than real hair. Eric arrives a short time later. Both spend the night, having been evicted. Sometime later, Heidi reveals her detective boyfriend has broken up with her because she hasn’t been respectful enough about 9/11. Heidi comments that 9/11 has infantilized America, causing adults to pretend to be teenaged versions of themselves.
