Beauregard
Beauregard is the main character of the novel. His parents are Anthony and Ella Montage. He is married to Kia, with whom he has two young sons, Javon and Derron. When Beauregard was a young man, he tried saving his father from a band of gangsters by running them down with his father's car. Having killed the men, Beauregard had to serve five years in juvie for involuntary manslaughter. When he got out, he discovered he had a daughter, Ariel, with a former lover. He tried changing his life and restoring his relationship with Ariel. He met and married Kia, and started a domestic life in a humble double-wide trailer. Still living in his hometown, Shepherd's Corner, Beauregard felt trapped by the town's ghosts. Though he opened an auto repair shop with his cousin Kelvin, and denounced his former life of crime, Beauregard constantly craved his risk-taking past...
