Summary
In Chapter 27, Beauregard called Kia on his way home. She ignored her cell. Someone was knocking. Three unkempt white men were outside. They demanded to know where Beauregard was. When she would not tell them, the men told her she and the boys had to come with them. She refused. The men, all armed, grew aggressive. Suddenly Javon appeared "on the porch holding a gun" (177). The verbal fighting turned physical. Shots fired from all directions. Javon killed two of the men. Kia screamed. Javon realized someone had shot Darren.
Daren went into surgery at the hospital. Beauregard found Kia crying in the waiting room. She blamed him for everything. When he tried rationalizing the situation, Kia demanded he leave. He sat in the car, beating the steering wheel.
In Chapter 28, Beauregard told Boonie everything that had happened. Boonie said he would help him...
