Summary

In Chapter 14, the cops questioned Lou Ellen about the heist. She lied, saying the burglars only stole "a few hundred dollars in petty cash" (99).

After they left, Lazarus "Lazy" Mothersbaugh called Lou Ellen wanting to know how she let his shop get robbed. Two of Lazy's men, Horace and Billy, arrived shortly thereafter. When they learned Jenny was involved in the robbery, the men killed Lou Ellen and left.

In Chapter 15, Beauregard met with Ronnie. He gave Beauregard his cut inside two cereal boxes. Beauregard made Ronnie promise never to contact him again.

After leaving Beauregard, Ronnie drove to Jenny's, unable to contain his excitement. Now they had the money, he and Jenny could "leave the coal mines and cornfields and crab pots of Virginia behind" (105). On the phone, however, Jenny was curt.
