Chapters 12 and 13 Summary
A biologist for the Philippines government, Raul Biazon takes a small craft out to the Mariana Explorer. The Mariana Explorer is a NUMA research vessel, and when he boards the ship, Biazon meets the legendary Dirk Pitt, Sr. and his friend Al Giordino. Biazon tells them about dead fish that have been washing up on shore in one section of the Philippines, and Pitt decides to investigate. The ship sails to the suspected area, and after a series of tests and sonar searches; they determine that the fish have been dying of arsenic poisoning which seem to emanate from a sunken vessel. Pitt and Giordino dive below and discover a Japanese ship from WWII that appears to have hit a coral reef and sunk.
