Crows
While crows are a literal representation of the Carrion Crow’s beliefs, from a narrative standpoint they represent the unknown. This is why Serapio sees them as his friends, as he is destined to manifest the crow god and recreate the world for the sake of his mother’s clan. When crows appear in the story, major change is coming. His friends introduce him to his tutors. Crow riders share important information between key characters. Others are used by Serapio to learn new things by acting as his eyes. They are at the center of significant change and act as foreshadowing for the arrival of the crow god himself.
