Troy
The city of Troy is where the Trojan war and almost the entirety of the novel takes place. Troy ruled by King Priam, whose son Paris is foretold by prophecy to bring the destruction of Troy. Paris steals Queen Helen from Greek King Melenaus, which causes all the armies of Greece to sail to Troy and begin war there. The city of Troy features formidable defenses: walls that are 30 feet high surround the city, with watchtowers built into them. This strong defense system causes the war between the Greeks and the Trojans to continue for ten years.
The version of Troy featured in Homer’s Iliad, and likewise Black Ships before Troy, is believed to have existed around 1700 B.C and 1190 B.C., situated what is modern day Turkey.
