Summary
In “Golden Apple” Peleus, king of Myrmidons in Ancient Greece marries a sea nymph named Thetis. Gods attend the wedding. Eris, the goddess of discord was not invited. She comes anyway to present a golden apple which was inscribed saying it was “to the fairest” and then leaves (6).
Athene, goddess of wisdom, Hera, queen of Gods, and Aphrodite, goddess of beauty quarrel as they all believe they deserve the apple.
Priam, king of Troy, and his wife Queen Heruba gave birth to a son, Paris. Prophecy says that he will burn down Troy so Priam sends him away to die. A herdsman finds the baby and raises him.
Paris becomes a man and falls in love with a nymph Oenone.
The goddesses, still quarrelling decades later, appear before adult Paris to ask him which deserves the apple. Athene...
