Summary
In Chapter 9: “Duke Of Colorado,” January 10, the day everybody had been waiting for since the investigation began had arrived—Duke’s visit to Colorado Springs. The chief of police assigned Ron to serve as Duke’s personal security while Duke was in Colorado Springs. Ron asked not to, due to the potential rick to the investigation, but the chief insisted. Ron would protect Duke in plainclothes, meaning it would look like Duke had a black man in his entourage.
Ron went to a noon meeting of Duke and local KKK and Posse members at a local steakhouse. Chuck and Jimmy did not know that Ron would be Duke’s security detail until he arrived, he gave them a “look that said ‘everything is okay, don’t be alarmed’” (135).
