Summary
In Chapter 7: “KKKolarado,” with Jimmy undercover with Chuck, Ron’s investigation had grown beyond his own “pet project” (97). The KKK was joining with the Posse, David Duke was coming to town, and multiple anti-Klan groups were planning a counter protest.
On December 16, People for the Betterment of People, an anti-Klan group, held a protest in downtown Colorado Springs; the protest march had about twenty participants. On the other side of the street, Ken and his second in command Joe Stewart marched, Ken in Robes, Joe in a KKK jacket. Ron walked near Ken and Joe to monitor the situation, he laughed at the idea that he was so close to Ken, and Ken was oblivious. During the march, a young black boy asked his father why Ken was dressed funny, and the father replied, “He’s just a damn clown, son” (99).
