Summary

In Chapter 13 Augusta notices one of Victoria’s clients, a divorced man named Russell, has fallen for Victoria. Augusta likes him because he kissed her hand the first time he met her and he says hi to her every time he comes for therapy, even though Augusta cannot speak because of a stroke. Most of Victoria's other clients ignore Augusta. Augusta remembers the day she and her lover, Dudley Lee, met with Bela Nova, her teacher and Dudley’s mother, to tell her they were going to marry. They wore clothes Augusta dyed purple to summon will and control. Augusta hardly spoke during the meeting. Dudley tried to tell his mother they wanted to elope, but Bela Nova guessed what was going on and beat them both down.
