Summary
Benny arrives at the attorney’s office and leans in to hug Byron before he pushes her away. He remembers how she missed their father’s funeral and he does not want anything to do with her. Benny is surprised that he physically pushes her away because he never hit her when they were children.
Their mother left them a note and a long audio message lasting eight hours. She writes that she left them a black cake in the freezer and asks them to sit down together and share the cake when the time is right. Benny begins to cry. She thinks about her recent firing from her call center job and the many birthdays and holidays that she spent estranged from her mother.
They begin to listen to the recording even though Benny wants to take a copy with her back...
