Summary

Zora lays feverish on her mattress which is now on the kitchen floor because this room is farther from the dangers windows pose. She sees what she thinks is a dead dog on the streets, but when she walks near, she realizes that it is the body of a dead woman. People, including Zora, have to walk past the woman because snipers make it unsafe to stop and move her body. Zora makes it to work and teaches an almost empty class. The Yugoslav National Army was forced to give their weapons to the Serbs. A blockade is established on May 2nd and many students cannot make it to class because they are on the other side of the blockade. There is barely any food, and Zora rations what she has.
