Summary
In Chapter 21, Ziva wakes up in the back of the wagon and finds that they have reached a busy marketplace of a small town. Pesah tells her that Almas went to buy some supplies and that he seems nice for a sheyd. Ziva, however, is annoyed that Almas left Pesah alone, but is surprised when Pesah says he is not helpless. Ziva finds Almas looking at the pastries and the two buy supplies with the money he took after the thieves died. Suddenly, a man accuses a woman of stealing and demands that everyone count their money. The vendor says she did not mean to shortchange him, but the man refuses to listen, even when she says he never gave her gold. As the man starts to accuse her child of pickpocketing, Ziva realizes she recognizes the man.
