Summary

In Chapter 28, May enjoys the party for awhile but then rambles toward Galway's cottage where she spends a little time poking around outside. Suddenly, May hears a woman's scream coming from the direction of Athol's cottage so she heads that way. When she arrives, she sees Athol having sex with the au pair on an outside table. May runs back to the party where she encounters Ev who tells her that she is pregnant but May must keep it a secret.

In Chapter 29, May does some calculations and realizes that Ev was pregnant before they came to Winloch and wonders whose baby Ev is carrying. The next morning, Ev tells May that she and John have been planning to leave as soon as she receives her trust money. May is furious that Ev has had secret plans that would include abandoning May.
