Summary

The story begins ten years ago when Shiba meets Mecate, an Althaean princess who recently joined his army. His mother, Mallory Zabato, informs them of her declining health and that Shiba would soon become the region leader. To prove his worth, he participates in a customary duel with Althaea's most powerful region, Althaea Main. Region Leader Suzan of Althaea Main also planned to step down soon out of retirement and had trained a promising soldier who had become well-known across the lands. Shiba duels her protégé, Commander Gaven, and wins. Frustrated with his loss, Suzan explains to Gaven that having a partner would make him stronger and help him win respect among his comrades, an issue that Gaven faces as a talented, young warrior.
