Summary

Five years have passed since the Knights were assembled. Mirari, Lucan, Starlight, Fangbane, and Sarkan wait at a kōnvoy station in Avon. Mirari reminisces about her past as Roselyn Hale and the restrictive upbringing she had as a noble. Her parents engage in a heated argument, which escalates into violence. Mirari doesn't recall how it ended. Despite her difficult past, Mirari decides to embrace her new identity as she boards the kōnvoy and reminisces about the life of Roselyn.

Roselyn wakes up in a forest, disoriented and unable to remember how she got there. She walks aimlessly until she is discovered by two boys, Salathiel and Gaven. They take her to their farm, where she stays for a few days. Her cousin, Lucan Hale, arrives searching for Roselyn. Roselyn discovers that a fire on the kōnvoy killed her parents and...
