Summary

Tony ran away from the drones in the park, putting as much distance as he could between him and them. He had taken photographs of Lemoine’s entire facility: the equipment, the drilling, the boreholes, the piping, the camouflage concealing the operation, and the depth of the environmental damage. Lemoine’s solution mine had killed thousands of plants, trees, shrubs, and animals: “He knew environmental devastation when he saw it; he could recognise the signs of toxic, rapacious, imperial-stage capitalist industrial disgrace” (331).

Tony had a headache from the toxic chemicals Lemoine used for solution mining, but packed his belongings to drive away regardless. While he packed, he incorrectly conjectured that the government of New Zealand had proceeded with mining in national parks, despite public outcry.
