Summary

In Chapter 1 of the Epilogue, Eskibahçe receives a new imam. He empties out the houses left behind by the Christians and throws out all wine. He then vandalizes the Christian church, defaces Christian tombs, and throws their bones over the cliffs. In Greece, mosques are demolished and Muslim graves are desecrated.

Karatavuk narrates Chapter 2, as one day he finds the bag of soil Mehmetçik gave him before he left for the war. He pours it back in the place it came from. He then tells the man who now lives in Mehmetçik’s old house about the soil, and the man reveals that he has a bag of soil he took from Crete. Later, that man grows basil in the soil and hands out its seeds, so that everyone in the town will have Cretan basil.
