Summary
In Chapter 71, the narrator observes Ayse as she visits Polyxeni. Ayse weeps as she explains Abdulhamid is dying. The imam can no longer urinate, has yellowed skin, bleeding eyes, and is delirious.
Ayse returns home to see Abdulhamid on the verge of death. Before he dies, she asks if it is true that she will not be permitted into paradise because she is a woman. He tells her that it would not be paradise without her. That night, Iskander secretly digs Abdulhamid’s grave, and everyone in the town thinks it is a miracle.
In Chapter 72, Mustafa starts making speeches on the emancipation of women. Someone plans an assault on Enver Pasha because they want Mustafa to take his place, but it fails. When the sultan dies, the new one posts Mustafa in Palestine. Islamic has broken, and Arabs join the British...
