Summary
For a time, after buying the cabin, C.M. and X became friends with two neighbors across the street named Midori and Salif. One day, agents of the Southern Territory carried out a series of bombings in the Northern Territory and a dinner they were having devolved into bitter political discourse between X and Salif. After some time, X raised a croquet mallet to Salif and threatened to hit it with him, which prompted C.M. to take the mallet out of X’s hand and bring her home. They never spoke to Midori and Salif again.
In Ross McElwee’s documentary, X explains that she began The Human Subject because she was struck with the thought that it was difficult to be one person for one’s entire life.
