Billy Summers aka David Lockridge aka Dalton Smith

Billy Summers is the main character in this novel. He is a for-hire assassin who will only accept jobs in which he believes his target is a bad person. The premise of Billy’s story is that he has taken on one last job before he retires. Billy fears that this job will go wrong. He narrowly avoids being killed by the man who hired him and sets out on a journey to determine who wanted him dead and why.

Billy is given the identity of David Lockridge when he is hired to kill Joel Allen, a murderer who will be brought to the small town of Red Bluff for arraignment. Billy additionally uses the identity Dalton Smith, an identity he has crafted for himself to hide from Nick and his underlings.
