Summary

Chapter 16 returns to Billy’s novel. He starts to describe what happened in the Funhouse when Alice interrupts him to tell him someone has pulled into the driveway. It is the landlord who has come to tell Billy the house has been sold and he has six weeks to move.

Spooked, Billy tells Alice he is going to give Tripp his payback, and then get out of town the following day. Billy and Alice pack, and then check into a motel. Billy leaves Alice at the motel while he goes to Tripp’s apartment. He finds the van from which Alice was dumped in a back parking lot.

Jack opens the door of Tripp’s apartment when Billy knocks. Billy ties him up and makes him tell Alice over the phone that he is sorry. When Billy asks Jack if he knows what...
