Abigail decides to become a vegan early on in the book. This is because Bonnie is a vegan and Abigail wants to be closer to her. Her choosing to become a vegan represents that closeness and how much she idealizes Bonnie.

Celeste’s Jewelry

Whenever Perry hits Celeste he always goes out and gets her jewelry. In his mind, this justifies and absolves him from the abuse. Celeste never wears the jewelry that he buys because she subconsciously doesn’t want him to be absolved, even though she frequently defends his actions.
