Chapter 55

Madeline is at work, about to make a business call to Lorraine. She was dreading it because she knew it would turn into a social call. Lorraine tells her she had a new bit of juicy gossip, that Renata’s husband was cheating on Renata with the maid Juliette. Madeline feels guilty because even though she dislikes Renata she doesn’t feel she deserves to have her husband cheat. Lorraine also mentions the secret project that Abigail is involved in. She doesn’t know what it is, but her motherly instincts kicked in. Madeline texts Abigail to call her. She gets a call a few moments later from Nathan, pleading with her not to be mad.
