Chapter 22

The chapter opens three months before the trivia night. Celeste is watching television with Perry, who had just gotten back from a trip. Perry asks about the birthday party, but Celeste says she’s going to Disney on Ice with Madeline and Jane and some other parents. Perry is annoyed that he wasn’t included in the decision making. Celeste senses a fight is starting and tries to smooth it over. Perry grabs her arm and squeezes hard enough to leave marks. Celeste thinks back to the first time it happened. She said that she was going to leave him. She intended to the next time it happened, but one of their children got sick and they were both too worried to talk about it. Now Celeste just made excuses for him. She decides that it was just the glitch they had...
