Summary

Chapter 16

Madeline talks to Ed after the play date. She thinks that Celeste and Jane are very similar, but she can’t figure out why. Ed thinks it’s because they’re both damaged. Madeline is surprised by this and wonders if she is damaged too. Ed assures her that she isn’t. Madeline starts talking about how she’s hurt that Abigail left with Nathan. She thought after the divorce Abigail would hate Nathan and love Madeline the most. Ed makes a joke about killing Nathan for her. In the present, one of the interviewees comments how it seems like the police have no idea what happened.

Chapter 17

Jane is getting ready for Ziggy’s first day of school. While she’s taking pictures with Ziggy and her parents, she runs into Bonnie and Nathan for the first time. Amabella shows up...
