Chapter 4

In Chapter 4, Jane takes Madeline to a café so she can rest her leg after dropping their children off at orientation. Chloe is happy to go with Ziggy, explaining all the school rules to him. Madeline talks to Jane while she waits for her friend, Celeste, to show up. Madeline tells her that she has an ex-husband, Nathan, who has remarried to someone named Bonnie. Bonnie will be at the orientation as well since they have a child attending the school. She tells Jane that she hates her ex-husband and his new wife, although it’s hard to hate her because of how likeable she is. Jane tells Madeline that she moved to the beach on a whim.
