Summary
The pilot’s doubt grew into “fear” (307) as he looked around the room. The pilot realized that he was sweating, so upon realizing how stressed he was, the pilot decided that he had to do something. He left the bed and crawled towards the window. When he looked outside, he saw a small house surrounded by a field. Next to the house, there was a sign, covered by overgrown hedges. He was soon able to read the sign, which said “Garde au Chien” (308). This made the pilot realize that he was in France.
The pilot rushed back into bed, which caused his thigh to hurt. After some time, the nurse returned. The nurse started to take care of him, but he refused breakfast and brushed his own teeth. The nurse told the pilot that a British Commander was going to visit him and...
