Summary

In Part Two, Chapter 25, "The In-Between Place," when Suleika reaches her "last day of chemo," she realizes she has spent most of her adult life in "the kingdom of the sick" (199). Afterwards, she understands that it was time for her to move forward on her own. In order to do so, she must stop talking to Will. She wants to hide from her grief. Now that their relationship is over, she wants to move on. Not long later she meets "a jazz musician named Jon" (201). They start seeing each other regularly. Being with Jon allows Suleika to feel she is returning "to the kingdom of the well" (204).

One day Suleika and Will meet up. She tells him about Jon. He is hurt and angry, having wanted to get back together. They part on bad terms.
