Summary
A second person narrator starts off this short story by describing a massive gray gothic tower that is a short walk from the park. The tower has a coat of arms and a slogan with the words "Lucet et Ardet" painted on it (49). This gray tower is the St. Alfonso's Boy's High School and Junior College. It was established 1858 and is one of the oldest educational establishments in the entire state of Karnataka. It is a Jesuit run school and is Kittur's most famous, as many of it's alumni have gone on to attend the Indian Institute of Technology, the Karnataka Regional Engineering College and other prestigious universities in India and elsewhere in the world.
