Summary
This short story begins with a second person narrator telling the reader that once they have walked down Cool Water Well Road past Masjid Road a person is not far from the Arabian Sea. The Bunder is mostly Muslim and the major landmark is the Dargah, which is the tomb-shrine of Yusuf Ali. This is where thousands of Muslims pilgrimage to each year. An ancient bayan tree that grows behind the tomb is always covered in green and gold ribbons and is believed to have the power to cure people. Dozens of infirm people sit outside the shrine begging. The narrator then says if a reader walks to the other end of the Bunder, there is an industrial area where a bunch of textile sweatshops operate. The Bunder has the highest crime rate in Kittur.
