Summary

In Chapter 14, Liz sets out for a run. She realizes Helena is not at home. Mr. Buxbaum says Helena said something about running an errand. Mr. Buxbaum seems skeptical when Liz says there is nothing wrong, saying that “Helena said the same thing” (283). As Liz runs toward the cemetery, she begins to become angry at Wes. She feels “He knew I was susceptible to romance, and he'd used it against me” (284). Liz realizes there is someone at her mom's grave. When the person turns around, she recognizes Helena. Liz is angry. She says Helena never knew Mrs. Buxbaum and does not understand why she would be here. Helena says she is hoping for help getting through to Liz. She again calls Liz “Libby,” making Liz lash out. Helena says it seems that Liz is trying to argue. Liz denies it, but knows it...
