Summary

The final scene, Scene 9, takes place in 1968 at Robert and Emma’s house, in the bedroom. Jerry is sitting alone in the dimly lit room when Emma enters. She’s startled to see him. Jerry says he has been waiting for her. Jerry tells Emma that she is beautiful and Emma retorts that Jerry is drunk. Jerry shares a fantasy about having sex with Emma on her wedding day when he was the best man. He tells Emma that he is crazy about her and overwhelmed by her. He talks at length about his feelings for her while Emma says little in reply and reminds Jerry that her husband is on the other side of the door. Jerry kisses Emma and she breaks away.
