Summary

Scene 7 takes place in 1973, later than the previous scene, at a restaurant where Jerry and Robert are having lunch together. They order drinks and food and discuss playing squash. Jerry avoids committing to a game, claiming he hasn’t been well. Jerry asks about the trip to Venice, but they are interrupted by the waiter. Jerry asks again about Venice but the waiter, who is Italian, mistakenly thinks Jerry is asking him and starts talking about Venice. When the waiter leaves, Robert reveals that he went to Torcello on his own. He got there on a speedboat. Jerry asks where Emma was and Robert says he thinks she was asleep.
