Summary

Scene 3 takes place in 1975, in the flat that Emma and Jerry rent to conduct their affair. Emma and Jerry discuss how long it’s been since they were last in the flat. Emma implies that it is a waste of money because they’re never there anymore. Jerry suggests that it is difficult for them to see each other now because Emma is busy in the afternoons running a gallery and Jerry is often in America. Emma counters that when their affair began, they always managed to make time for each other, even with competing demands. They agree to sell the flat and its contents. Emma gives her key to Jerry. Before she leaves, she reminds him that she is there because the gallery closes every Thursday afternoon.
