Loyalty
One of the themes of the book is loyalty. Roarke had been involved in crime before and while building his business empire. He was raised on the streets of Dublin and turned to crime at an early age in order to survive. He was part of a gang that included Mick Connelly, and the two had been involved in many deals together, then had gone their separate ways. Mick appears after a fifteen year absence, several hours after the murder of the hotel maid, and is invited to stay at the Roarke home. Eve is suspicious of Mick because of his criminal activities but tells Roarke that she will accept him because he is Roarke's friend, just as she accepted Summerset, their butler. Summerset is also from Roarke's past, and when he is a target of the hitman, he refuses Roarke's order to leave New York, even though...
