The Garner’s farm where the slaves lived and worked. After Mr. Garner died, the schoolteacher took over. The schoolteacher controlled the slaves through beatings and shackling them.

The home Baby Suggs was given by Mr. and Miss Bodwin in exchange for fixing shoes, mending and doing laundry. It was a larger house outside of Cincinnati. It was the house the Bodwin’s grew up in.

Cincinnati, Ohio

Baby Suggs arrived in Cincinnati as a free woman. Cincinnati was where the slaves settled after escaping or being freed from Kentucky.

Alfred, Georgia

The prison where Paul D was put for trying to kill his owner after being sold by the schoolteacher. Paul D escaped when the rain water became so deep they were able to dive under the steel bars that locked them in.
