Sethe
Sethe was a slave girl at Sweet Home. Sethe was married to Halle and together they had four children, Howard, Buglar, the little girl and Denver. Sethe fled Sweet Home and went north to Ohio. When the slave owner came after her she attempted to kill all of her children and ended up killing the little girl as a way of protecting the children from a life of slavery.
Baby Suggs
Baby Suggs was Halle’s mother. She was a slave at Sweet Home until Halle was able to pay for her freedom. Baby Suggs opened her home to anyone in need of a place to stay. She also served as preacher to the coloreds in the area.
