Chapter Seven 1960 Fire! Fire!
After Gillian dies, Ruby and her family go to the cemetery to visit Gillian's grave, and Ruby sees that the headstone reads "Safe in the Arms of Jesus." Ruby begins to think of Gillian in heaven and what she must be doing there and if Gillian is happy in heaven. Ruby starts going to church with her friend Kathleen and Kathleen's mother. Ruby finds comfort in praying for Gillian, praying that she is happy. Ruby spends so much time praying for Gillian that her knees begin to get sore and Bunty takes Ruby to the doctor to find out what is wrong with her. Ruby has not told her mother she has been praying for Gillian. The doctor tells Bunty that Ruby has housemaid's knee, and that Ruby should just take it easy. When Ruby comes home...
