Summary
Past picks up the story the day that Jack and Grace are supposed to go to Thailand together, when they are supposed to hear the verdict on the Tomasin case. Although the plans assume he is going to lose the case, Grace plans for every eventuality. While he is gone she crushes the pills into a fine powder. Jack appears in her room with two glasses and announces that he lost. She asks him to look in her eye for an itch; while he is doing so she shakes the powder into the whisky glass and switches them. Meanwhile, Jack admits that the wife in the Tomasin case lied to him. Losing the case does not bring out Jack’s best side, and before Grace can help herself she throws her whisky in Jack’s face.
