Summary
In Chapter 7, "Begin Again," describes his trip to Birmingham, Alabama in July of 2019. He wanted to visit the Legacy Museum and the National Memorial for Peace and Justice. Equal Justice Initiative founder and executive director, Bryan Stevenson's work had inspired both the museum and the memorial. Glaude appreciated how Stevenson's endeavors related to his interpretations of Baldwin. Stevenson was especially devoted to reforming the social justice system. Glaude understood a connection between Stevenson and Baldwin's efforts to expose how "our history corrupts the soul in such a way that we have stood by in relative silence as this happened" (177).
Baldwin's No Name in the Streets addressed America's incarceration problem through the examination of Tony Maynard's case.
