Fumiko

Fumiko is the central character in Chapter 1. She is an intelligent, hard-working, career-driven woman. She is also described as being very attractive. She is in a long-term relationship with a coworker of hers named Goro. One day, Goro says that he has decided to end their relationship. He has been offered his dream job in the United States. A week later, Fumiko decides to use the café to travel back in time and ask him to stay. She knows that it will not change the present, but she hopes that it will change the future and persuade Goro to return to her. She loves Goro deeply, and he loves her too. His insecurity is largely what drove him to break up with her, but by the end of the novel, they are back together and are happy.
