Summary
Chapter 4, “Mother and Child,” begins by revealing that Hirai did return to Takakura to run the inn with her parents. Hirai wants to honor Kumi’s memory by repairing her relationship with her parents. One day, Fumiko visits the café again and wonders if it is possible to use the café to travel forward in time instead of backward. Goro has returned to Japan to be with Fumiko, and Fumiko hopes that they will be married soon. However, Fumiko then learns of another rule: it is only possible for each person to use the café’s time travel once. Later that day, Fusagi arrives, followed by Kohtake. Kohtake has decided to stay by her husband’s side, even though he no longer remembers her. The narrative then shifts to the character who is the main focus of the chapter: Kei Tokita.
