Enugu
Enugu is Ofunne's hometown. She has lived here all her life with her parents. The day she leaves for university, Ofunne's mother and father drive her to the bus station. On the drive, her father urges her to remember where she comes from. Though Ofunne repeats her father's words to herself throughout her early days on campus, she soon forgets her place and identity of origin.

The majority of the short story takes place at the university. The school does not have a definite name or location.
When Ofunne first arrives on campus, she is determined to protect her identity. However, when she is falsely accused of cheating during an exam, she wonders if who she is might be compromising her chances at success, and putting her into danger.
