Northville, New York
Northville is a village in the town of Northampton in upper state New York at the foot of the Adirondacks. Wayne and Kelly restore a nineteenth–century farmhouse they had purchased in the town that “was a conservative family town, and that’s what Wayne and Kelly loved about it.” (19). The twins spend the first years of their lives here, and Wyatt already displays his non-conforming gender ways. It is not until 2003, when the children are ready to enter school, does Wayne take a new job at the University of Maine at Orono, and the family prepares to move. The move from Northville means the loss of friends for Kelly and the two boys. The woods where there the children played and the comfortable atmosphere would also be lost.
