Summary
In Chapter 17 Wyatt enters the fifth grade, located in a different section of Asa Adams School and containing multi-stall bathrooms versus individual ones. It was anticipated that Wyatt would use the girl’s bathroom, just as Kelly was able to have Wyatt join the girl’s softball Little League team. In Chapter 18, Wyatt changes his name to Nicole. To avoid possible outing by the media savvy Christian Civic League of Maine, an anti-transgender right-wing religious community, Nicole’s parents petition the court to keep the name change private. The request was granted. In front of the judge, it was the first time Wayne publicly agreed that his son was his daughter.
